I was a little nervous about shipping a brand new car across country but the experience was not as painful as I thought it would be.

Tom was helpful and knowledgeable about the process. The company didn't seem high pressure. I liked that they were available by phone and e-mail as that is sometimes more convenient for me to e-mail because of work. They were overall very flexible with my needs as well and prompt in returning messages.

The only problem I had was that my car was not picked up for over a week. I put the car up for bid over a holiday so that might be part of the issue. After raising it by $50, the car still wasn't picked up so SafeDirect offered to put an extra $25 on the bid at no cost to me.

Getting the car assigned to a carrier was for me, the only issue. It was a bit of a bummer to have the price go up $50 since cross country shipping is already so expensive . However, once it was assigned I was surprised about how smooth the rest of the process went. The trucker was available to pick up my car a day earlier than quoted AND got the car to me from east coast to west coast in 3 days. The car was picked up Thursday afternoon, and it was delivered to my door on the west coast by Sunday afternoon. I was very surprised. The driver was also good in calling a day in advance and an hour in advance. I have heard stories of truckers calling and saying "your car is here" without any notice, but I did not have that experience.

The car was a bit dirty when it arrived. However, other friends of mine who have shipped their car across country had a similar experience since the car is traveling across country on an open carrier. There was no major damage though, so I just took it to a car wash that day to get it back the way it was looking before.

If I were to do the process I again, I would probably use the same company but I would recommend to start the process at least a week before your availability date, especially if it is during a busy time. This might help getting a carrier assigned right away and avoid raising prices.
