When you end up with the worst driver, you need the best broker

Shipping your car can leave you feeling vulnerable - who is driving it onto the truck? Will they be as careful with it as you are? What is it being exposed to during the trip? I had all those concerns when I decided to ship my car from Seattle, WA to Costa Mesa, CA. I chose a company with a “one driver, one truck, door to door” policy, it was picked up, I held my breath, and . . . everything fell apart. Every single thing that could go wrong, went wrong. The owner of the company who employed the truck drivers was often impossible to get a hold of, withheld information, and lied. The drivers themselves lied to me, berated, and insulted me. The owner would not talk to me for days, ignoring my phone calls, and then straightforwardly refused to tell me where my car was and who had it. She also refused to tell me the address of her business! Ultimately, I ended up at the police station twice in tears because they would not deliver my car, but even the police could not compel them to be honest or honor their contract.
I felt I was being held hostage - they had my car! I was powerless and in the dark (and taking taxis).
You can't control everything in the world and every once and a while you are going to encounter shockingly horrible people. When this happened to me, I was so lucky I had used YBS. Susie, Lynne, and Adam at YBS were professional, proactive, and went far far above and beyond their obligation to help me. They took my phone calls and made calls on my behalf even after business hours were long over. They stayed active on the matter for weeks, advocating for me and offering support. As a broker, they could have stepped back, their part of the transaction complete, and left me on my own. But not for one minute did they do that. They refunded me more than I asked for because they felt it was right. It seemed to me that they were as invested in solving this problem as I was, and that made so much difference as I struggled to figure out what to do.
In the future, I’d rather hire a monkey to drive my car than ship it, but if I ever absolutely had to ship a car again, I would call YBS. There are real, ethical, hard-working people at the other end of the phone when you call and that is so important when buying a service like this.
