I thought I did my homework when looking for the right transporter.

While searching the Internet for information on transporters, I came upon this website. After reading some of the reviews, I wasn't sure which company I was going to use since all the top companies had rave reviews.

To make my decision easier, I wanted to see how well they responded to my inquiries, so I sent out an e-mail asking what the policy was for having personal items in the car. The only one to reply back was Speciality Mobile Sytems, and might I add they were very prompt in doing so. After getting their reply, I spoke with the customer rep on the phone a few times and she was able to answer all my questions.

After giving it some thought for a few nights, I decided to go with Speciality Mobile. My Dad was actually the one giving them the car since I was already in California. He said they picked my car up within a few days after I made the appointment and that the driver was pleasant. Everything was going fine.

That is, until I finally got my car.

Speciality Mobile said the car would be out here no later than the 3rd of November and it was now the eve of. I gave them a call to find out what the status was on my car. The customer rep said she would get a hold of dispatch and call me within a few minutes. About an hour later I get a call from the driver saying he's ready to drop off my car (I thought there was 12-24 hour notice before drop off). I also find it a little suspicious that the driver was all of a sudden ready to drop my off my car right after I had to call them to find out where my car was.

I told the driver I was at work and I asked if it would be possible to drop it off at my office. He asked how far it was from my house (original destination) and I told him it was around 5 miles. He said fine and about a half hour later I get a call from the driver saying he's near my office and that his navigation unit is showing that it's 20 miles from the original destination and that I would have to pay a fee. I went ahead and Googled the directions from my house to my office and it was 4.7 miles, so I told him I wasn't going to pay it.

When I met the driver outside, I was first surprised that it was coming off a flatbed tow truck and not a car carrier. As I approached the driver, he pulled out a document for me to sign, but I told the driver I wanted to examine my car for any damage. I asked the driver if he could tell me how my car was tranported and he said the car was dropped off at his warehouse by another driver and then he delivered it here on his flatbed. He then brought up the extra fee of having to deliver my car to my work place. After some bickering, I told him I was going to call Speciality Mobile Systems to express my concern about the matter and this is when the driver decided to let it pass. After walking around the car, I didn't see any exterior damage and my personal items were still there so I gave him the cashier's check and signed the form.

On my way home I noticed the car was making an unusual sound. I thought it might have been because of the extra weight or the road I was on, but that wasn't the case. It's continued to make this noise once I unloaded everything. I will be taking it to a mechanic to find out what the problem is. I'll keep you updated on what I find out.

Thanks for reading.

We at Specialty Mobile appreciate this customer’s review. The reason why a flat bed delivered the vehicle to the customer is due to the fact that in the area the customer lives in it is difficult for a large truck and trailer to maneuver. Under no circumstances are carriers permitted to ask for additional money, they are in fact under contract for the amount of money required for the delivery. Asking for additional money will ultimately lead to no further relationship with the carrier. The customer was correct in stating that he would contact us, because we would have in fact stopped this immediately. As stated by the terms and conditions that customers agree to before proceeding with a transport order; item 6, Mechanical function, exhaust assembly, under carrier, alignment, suspension, tuning of engine or car alarms. That being said, we are not, nor is the carrier responsible for unusual noises. Amy/Specialty Mobile
