Shipping a car across the country is a bit nerve wracking, and Ship a Car Direct was able to deliver the service requested. Although the estimate was higher than other bids, we chose this company due to the strong reviews and the good information on their website.

The pick-up was very quick (a one day turnaround from the date of request), although not exactly as expected. We had read the "door to door" service and assumed that would work without a hitch because we had a car picked up from our home before. However, the trucking company said they could not negotiate the neighborhood, and we would need to meet them at a shopping mall. The meeting ultimately worked out fine, but it did require some last minute plans for transportation home after the drop-off.

One thing I didn't realize from the reviews is that Ship a Car Direct is actually a brokerage firm that hires other companies to ship the car. Therefore, the trucking companies policies (such as the type of payment accepted) could differ depending upon the shipper. Our trucking company promised to call the day before the pick-up to let us know when the truck was coming, but they did not do so. When the truck arrived, the driver was very nice, and it was easy to work with him.

As the car was traversing the nation, I did think it would be nice if they had a tracking system similar to what FedEx uses so you would know the status of the shipment. In the end though, the important thing was that the car arrived in good shape and on time.
