Q Auto Transport
Be prepared for early pickup and early delivery.
Car arrived 2 days earlier than estimated. Had to scramble to get daughter to delivery location in time.
1 Truck 1 Driver service did not technically occur.
In the end car arrived in good shape to daughter.
Called Q Auto Transport on May 23 for transport from San Jose California to West Lafayette, Indiana by June 5th, spoke with Brenda. QAT was recommended by wife’s co-worker. Took information, said they would contact me in 1-2 days. Called back the next day as I had not heard from them and had received a quote from another carrier that could transport for a higher cost but didn’t think June 5th delivery was feasible.
Brenda said they already started looking and had found a carrier for me. When I asked why they hadn’t called me, she said it was because I hadn’t yet returned the Shipping Order Form (which they neglected to tell me they technically needed before starting the search for a carrier). I had already given her my credit card number to charge $1 to verify card. I went with Q.A.T. because of good price and also attracted to 1 Truck 1 Driver promise, which I confirmed.
The carrier was Brothers Motors out of Sacramento who could pick up on 5/28 and deliver on 6/2.
Brothers called me on 5/25 and said they would pick up the car the next day, 5/26. I asked about 1 Truck 1 Driver, they said smaller truck and different driver would transport car from San Jose to Sacramento, then different driver and larger truck would transport to Ind. So technically no 1 Truck 1 Driver, but same company handled both moves.
OK, I was available for pick up. Igor did a good job at pick up. I asked if early pick up would result in early delivery. He said estimate was still 6/2. Thought truck would start Fri. evening/ Sat AM.
We arranged for flight to Indy and shuttle for my daughter to arrive evening of 5/31.
Luda of Brothers Motors called Sunday 5/29 aft. telling me car would be delivered next day, Memorial Day, 5/30 between 6 and 9 PM! What?! What about leaving Saturday? Could they drop off on way back on 6/2? No. Luda was congenial, but firm, as I tried to make it work. Gave me her personal cell number to contact her on Sunday and Holiday.
Lucky to find a flight the next day, switching airlines, and a shuttle. Daughter arrived in Lafayette at 6PM. No call from driver by 8:30 PM. Called Luda for update, she gave me driver, Roman, called his cell.
He said he was an hour away, did not account for Central to Eastern time change going into Indiana.
Drop off would be at the Walmart near I-65, in the dark.
My daughter received a call from Roman and met him at the Walmart with a friend and the flashlight I had given her. Roman was nice, she said, car dirty but in fine shape, paid in cash, delivery completed.
Looking back, we should have shipped the car while our daughter was still at school in the spring, rather than trying to time it for her return for Summer Semester. My recommendation is to have a person available at the pickup location and already available at drop off location. I realize not everyone has this flexibility.
