I was assigned Motion as my carrier through a broker. I had read a bunch of negative reviews on them, and saw an "F" grade for them on the BBB page. I therefore asked the broker for another carrier, but it was too close to the pick-up date for a change to be made. Wasn't sure what to make of people saying to watch out for specific drivers by name (John) in the negative reviews, so didn't really think twice when John called me the day before the pick-up. This was the first communication anyone from the company had with me. Anyway, John was a nice guy, and pick-up was actually a day early, as was delivery. I had a feeling he was kinda taking me for a chump by how he tried to casually rush through things and get a signature and go. He strangely made it known that he liked my car and that HE would get certain rims and this and that. It was an awkward interaction to say the least, especially after he got upset when I told him I'd be paying with a cashier's check on delivery. He wanted cash.
Well luckily I had taken pictures of my car and the odometer/fuel gauge prior to him picking up my car. My car arrived in good condition, and in fact a day early. When I drove away I noticed that the fuel tank was almost half full (I had left a quarter-tank in it for pick-up). I then compared the mileage to my pick-up mileage, and there was an extra 250+ miles on my car. I called their headquarters in Oregon right away, and they seemed to dismiss my claim until I told them I had before and after pictures. They spoke with the driver, and he apparently denied driving it around, and didn't know why there were extra miles and extra fuel. I emailed him the pictures and they said that they would take care of this, send me a reimbursement, and likely fire this driver.
Almost 2 months had passed since the delivery, and I had not received anything from them. I called multiple times, but this manager who I had spoken with was on vacation, and nobody at the office wanted to handle this until he got back. After several days of calling, I finally got him on the phone, and he said a payment was mailed out that day. A week later I got a call from their receptionist asking for my name and address where the check can be mailed. I received my check for a whopping $50 just a few days ago. Awesome.
At least I've learned not to "chance it" with a company with an "F" grade by the BBB, and I'm happy to see that some little precautions (taking pictures prior) actually paid off (albeit only $50). If a broker assigns you a company, don't automatically agree to it. Do a little research on the carrier, and request a change early if need be. Pictures, even my crappy iPhone pictures, can help too!
