I called mercury after another company had horrible communication skills and after “three strikes” they were out. When I informed Mercury that I had selected another company, Jim sent me an email asking me to keep his number “just in case I needed a back-up plan.” At the time I just chuckled and said to myself “why not?”. (By this time I had read many reviews of numerous companies and saw how easy it was for something to go wrong.)

I called Jim and told him I needed to use the back-up plan. Told him the situation with the other company and then he told me what he does and how the process works. He stated I might have already heard, but he wanted to make sure I understood. He then wanted me to understand how the pricing works in relation to timing.

Well, I chose a mid-range, price and Jim went to work. Within 20 minutes, I kid you not; he had a carrier for me! I had not even opened the email yet and my friend in NC called to let me know that she just spoke with the driver and the car was being picked up the next day around noon. WOW! With my friend on the line, I checked my email; since I was shocked everything happened so quickly. Sure enough, there was the quote.

Everything went smoothly. Peter, the driver, was friendly, courteous, and very thorough. He showed where scratches were on the car and marked them. He took pictures of the car, described how it would be transported and what was covered. Two days later I got a call from the company letting me know all was fine and on schedule for delivery that Friday or Saturday, and they’d let me know based upon weather and traffic. (It was the week of Thanksgiving.) Friday I spoke with Peter who told me he would be at my home to deliver the car between 11:30 am and noon on Saturday. He then called me at 11:00 am to say he was on his way.

Everything looked great. Again, Peter was very nice, professional and thorough. There was liquid on the car which I didn’t recognize, and then when I touched it, it felt like oil. I asked Peter about it and he stated that yes, it was oil, and that it came across country on the bottom level and the car on top leaked oil. I wasn’t happy, but I had read and been pre-warned that there is the possibility of fluids from another car leaking on yours, and that was part of the risk of using an open carrier versus the closed carrier. …. You save money, but you take the risk.

I took my car to the car wash immediately, and the oil came off. The car looked great and all was good. Jim from Mercury had done his job beautifully and effectively. He is a good communicator and very professional. Peter from Pink Stone was also very good, professional and informative. I appreciated that he was up front about everything, communicated when he would arrive, and answered any questions honestly.

I would recommend using both the broker and the carrier.
