BAIT AND SWITCH ON BOTH ENDS OF DEAL

First they bait you with the quote. When I called them back to use them based on their quote I was told that if I wanted my car picked up sooner than later I would need to increase my amount by $300-$500. I was stunned. I said no and was told that it could be a long time before my car was picked up because other people are willing to offer more than their quote and their cars get picked up and I could end up being passed over ..so she says.."if no carrier picks up your bid then in a week or so we can revisit increasing your bid." I said I would take my chances as I was not in a huge hurry to get my car on the other end. How about they called me back within a couple of hours and then my car was picked up that night? Granted it was not at 7:30ish as the driver promised...it was more like midnight after he got the truck repaired. Whatever.
On the other end of the deal....I told them when I hired them that I had NO address in LA but I knew the car needed to be delivered near Fox Studios in Century City on the west side of LA. They said they understood but their policy is they have to have a physical address. I said the only address I have in LA is either Fox or my kids managers office address. They said no worries, just give the managers address and then when the driver calls to deliver give him the address in Century City. I said ok. So the day comes for my car to be delivered and HOW ABOUT THE DELIVERY COMPANY wants more money than the agreed upon amount?? Their reason is that I CHANGED THE DELIVERY ADDRESS!! Bait and switch. I even told the driver when he picked up the car that I did not have an address and where I knew the car would need to be delivered and in what area of LA. He knew the area because he said he lived in Hollywood, which is near there. The people at Magic Carpet acted like they wanted to help me and in the end actually did when I threatened to show up there with a film crew......This was a stressful day and they held me hostage because they had my car.
BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THESE PEOPLE, IT IS ABOUT THE MONEY...NOT THE QUOTE THEY GIVE YOU BUT ABOUT HOW MUCH MORE THEY CAN GET OUT OF YOU. How hard is it to just ask for the price you need to deliver the car and then stick to it?

Catherine, I'm sorry you feel you were treated so poorly. I did inform you up-front as I do all customers before they place an order how the transport industry works. I let you know that any and all money above or beyond the deposit goes directly to the carrier. The reason for me mentioning the expedited service pricing was because you needed your transport immediately, and that is usually what it takes to get your vehicle chosen first. We were lucky enough to have your car transported immediately at the original quote for the service you were requesting. I was not made aware until I called you during the delivery that there were any issues. I immediately called the carrier and even incorporated the help of my manager to ensure you wouldn't be charged any additional amounts for changing the destination address. This had nothing to do with being threatened with media or lawyers, it is just part of the job. I do regret that this caused stress for you, but we did everything possible to make your transport successful, and though there were issues, we handled them for you. There is no bait and switch. As stated previously, Magic Carpet does not make any more or any less than the deposit amount. sue@magiccarpetautotransport.com 503-882-4996
