G&L is a transport broker; this is something I was not aware of and did not know enough about the business of transporting vehicles to know I should have asked. Basically the broker charges a fee to organize the pick and delivery of your vehicle with the companies that actually haul it. Fred did a great job orgainzing my shipment on a short notice and reacted very professionally when there was an error regarding reversal of the pick up and delivery locations. Impressive that they were able to organize transport within a week of my initial contact and had it delivered from Florida in Washington in 6 days.

The comment about brokers was signficant for me because, as an intermediary, they are not able to provide you with real time information about the status of your shipment, nor do they have direct control of the driver or equipment hauling your vehicle. I needed to contact the hauling company directly to get up to date information on the shipment. Because they don't usually deal with the customer directly they were not set up for customer service. the information I typically received was, "its in route, the driver will call you when he's within a day of delivery". For my situation I needed more than a days notice for planning.

I used a transporter years ago that managed their own equipment and I was happier with the service because they were able to give me up to date information and were able to instill more confidence in how the vehicle would e handled.

For general transporation, a broker is the way to go because they are also able to negotiate lower cost than the direct haulers and I would recommend G&L w/o hesitation. But, if it is a special car you are transporting or expect to get more information than a cal 12-24hrs prior to delivery, consider using a company that uses their own equipment.
