DO NOT USE FEDEX! Dream car became a nightmare with FedEX

I contracted FedEx Custom Critical to transport a 1964 Corvette roadster from North Carolina to Minneapolis. No one ever contacted me from FedEx - period. I had to call them for every part of this nightmare. First of all throw out the estimated pickup and delivery - pickup was 12 days after the LATEST estimate. While in the truck the rear spring broke. I call Kevin my so-called rep and he was apologetic and sent me the claim form I needed. Since he gave me no indication that this wouldn't be covered I bought a replacement spring and found a local repair shop to install it. Normally I would do this type of work myself but since again there was no indication that this is not covered I escorted the driver to the shop. It was sheer luck that they had a tow truck in the area and the guys at Lehman's Garage did a fantastic job of gingerly wenching the car from the semi trailer to a flatbed tow truck in order to get it to the service bay. This was a HUGE mistake because once it was off the truck FedEX could wash their hands of any responsibility. If I would have had it delivered to my house there is absolutely no way it would have gotten off the truck. Also this relieved the driver because loaded in front of it was President Truman's personal sedan destin for display during the Republican Convention being held in St. Paul. After gathering up two estimates and supplying photos of the damage I promply (this was the only part of the experience that was prompt!!) received the form letter denying my claim. The best they would offer me was a coupon for a future transport - I respectfully declined the offer. I currently have the 64 roadster and a 75 t-top Corvette and they are not coming near either one of them.
