I contacted DAT in order to ship my daughter's car from her home in Pennsylvania to her new home in Oregon.

This particular business is somewhat complex in that a number of different entities need to establish trustworthy communication over a wide geographical and temporal palette. What I appreciated about DAT in general, and Malia in particular, was honesty and reliability in communication. She was particularly effective in relaying the news one did NOT want to hear ("I have no truck for you," "It's a cold route"). Yet this is probably the most important function that an agency needs to master. As my fellow Philadelphian, Ben Franklin, observed, "Success has many fathers but failure is an orphan." That is, when things go well in life, everyone is there to take the credit; when failure is apparent, it’s always someone else’s fault. I appreciated that Malia was willing to take ownership of an unusually long wait for the initial pickup (three weeks or more, I believe); I also found her an extraordinarily pleasant and personable woman. If she were in Philadelphia, I would do my best to hire her away from her current employer. Her demeanor was a welcome contrast to that of several other companies, notably Road Riders Auto Transport, which promised much but delivered nothing.

The delivery of my daughter's car was slightly marred by the fact that her license plate was missing when the auto was delivered. It had inadvertently been left on the truck, but was delivered and affixed within a few hours.

I thoroughly research and interview many vendors when considering a decision like this. There is no question that, should the need again arise, the company I would call is Domestic Auto Transport (Since I miss my daughter very much, I hope this will indeed occur - though I fear she has grown to love Oregon far too much.). While I feel one needs to self-advocate to a considerable degree in this sort of transaction, I recommend them unreservedly.
