WHY such poor ratings?

Okays boys and girls this is gonna be a long one.
First: I don't know if those other reviews are actually real. Because they almost scared me into not using DAS, but out of desperation I decided to go with them. And I wish I had used them all along!.
Second: Find yourself a personal carrier. If you have a "difficult" route. Chances are you're not going to be picked up.
Thrid: Do your research. See if your route is difficult. Call and make sure you're dealing with an actual carrier ask the person on the phone if they use their own personal trucks for the transport. Don't fall for "well we are using 'such-and-such' companies to help with your transport - they're still just brokers!
Now for my personal story (well somewhat, just what deals with the transport...) I needed to get our SUV transported to New Mexico, not knowing anything about the industry of moving a vehicle as cargo, I just typed into google search about auto transporting and got a whole lot of options. Not knowing what to do I just filled out some sites for quotes and what-not and got A LOT of responses and quotes all saying the same thing "DON"T BE FOOLED BY OUR COMPETETORS. GO WITH US> VEHICLE FULLY INSURED> TIMELY DELIVERY> YOU"RE IN CHARGE" "Okay." I thought, "Since they're all claiming the same thing I'll go with the cheapest. Why spend more money on the same service?" Well whether or not all brokers are the same I truly cannot tell you. I dealt with Plaza Auto Transport ( a broker). I called two weeks in advance to make sure this was something that could be done in the time frame that I needed. I spoke with Mike who assured me that the trip I needed to do (From NY- NM) was do-able. On behalf of Mike he did tell me the trip was not a usual route taken. But he did assure me I have plenty of time and not to worry. So I didn't. I felt good about my choice in transporters. Well, apparently there is this nationwide transport board that truckers look at and they decide (by price, I was later told the more you post your vehicle for the more "appealing" it is) if they want to take your vehicle to your destination. I was explained that my vehicle would be posted for someone to pick up, but i didn't fully understand what this all meant until 3 days AFTER my intial pick-up date was suppose to be. Then I was fully able to understand what Mike was telling me. THAT THE TRUCKERS ARE IN CHARGE -not you- in transporting. Even though all these brokers claim you're in charge- you're not- it's the truckers who decide whether or not they want to be bothered by your trip. If you're lucky, you have a popular route and paying big bucks then you'll be fought over. If you are like me, with a remote route and a modest offering the truckers apparently laugh at your request and leave you high and dry. I guess, untill they run out of the easy runs, then they'll get to you. So this is why I say research. Know beforehand if your route is one that they do often. If it is, then maybe it's worth the gamble of a broker to a carrier. For me, even if it's a strain on my pocket I'll always want to go the absolute, from now on, for peace of mind.
How did I come to find DAS. Pure luck (You guys really should advertise better!) After the sixth day of pulling the hair out of my head (because I actually found out three days before my intial pick-up date that the SUV hadn't been choosen) and Of calling other brokers and hearing the same thing Mike had told me and some even bashing Plaza's reputation. I came across DAS's number on the internet and saw that they were "CARRIERS" not brokers that they have their own personl fleet of trucks. I spoke with Lucus and luckily they were able to pick-up our SUV the next day. So I placed my order and thought all was right with the world again. Until I read the reviews here about DAS and damaged vehicles and things stolen and physically rip-out! I thought "OMG what have I done? Who are these people?" But at the same time I HAD to get our SUV to NM. So hoping to have some sort of insurance for myself I took pictures of everyhting and wrote down serial numbers of everything even the make, model and serial numbers of the tires. I will have to say I wasn't happy about DAS's insurance policy, but that is something for you to decide. Anyway, when the driver from DAS came and he was from a company not named DAS I started to panic and saw all the reviews flash before my eyes. I pulled out my list of everything from my children's car seat to the jack and tires asked him to confirm it and sign it. He said he never came across someone who had done this before, but he said he'd confirm it and sign it and he did and our SUV was on it's way. Long story still long... We did get our SUV in New Mexico 2 DAYS EARLY! it was still later than we intially needed it by, but that had nothing to do with DAS. It was in perfect condition. Nothing dented, broken, stolen or ripped out. Just dirty from the trip across country. Hope this review has helped you.
