Dependable at what?

Be sure to ask how they define "dependable".
I shipped two cars from NJ to WA. I had shipped with DAS before and they were OK, so I went with them again even though they were the most expensive quote. Mistake. The cars arrived after a month, but at different times. One had a big dent. To their credit, DAS offered to pay for *most* of the dent repair. When you sign the contract the fine print includes a $250 deductible for any damage. To add insult to injury, somebody stole my EZ Pass from the glove box, removed all the contents of the glove box and scattered them around the car, and pulled the phone charging wire completely out of the dashboard.

The local guy who delivered one car (the one that wasn't dented) explained that DAS damages lots of cars because they are the biggest auto shipper and are constantly shuffling cars around from transport to transport in order to optimize space in transit.

The bottom line: pick a smaller shipper who's going to pick up your car, put it on a truck, and deliver it from the same truck at the destination. DAS is the biggest but they're just too risky.
