I was looking for a transport to take my son's F-150 from FL to upstate NY. I did a lot of "homework", got a lot of quotes. Finally I called American Auto Transport. Victor, in sales was very friendly, but frequently used the phrase, "to be honest with you,..." Red Flag #1. After quoting the price, did me "a favor" and dropped it. Red Flag #2. That should have been enough, but I hired them anyway. They sent the contract for me to sign and I gave a credit card # for $150 deposit. The day before the the truck was supposed to arrive I tried, in vain to get in touch with the company multiple times, and called 2 different phone #'s. Never an answer. Red flag #3. Was supposed to receive a phone call from the truck driver the night before pick up. Did not receive a call. Started calling the customer service #'s at 8:00 the next morning. Left a voicemail each time at each number. I finally received a call back at 11:00, the morning the day the truck was supposed to arrive. I asked Angela when I could expect the truck that was picking up my car. She said that evening between 5:30 and 7:00. Then sent me the driver's contact info. Told me the driver would call an hour or two before he arrived. At 6:00 that evening, I called the number I was given for the driver and was told the truck was broken and my transport had been canceled. The driver told me the transport company had been notified at 9:33 that morning. I had spoken to the company at 11:00 that morning. The driver said I could call American Transport to see if they had arranged another truck for me, and if not, she might be able to find someone. At that point, I said forget it, and we wound up, at the last minute, changing our plans and my husband taking off work to make the 20 hour drive to NY and then will get a plane home. I honestly haven't figured out if this is a scam, if the "driver" was in on it, if they are just really incompetent, or just plain crooked. I will be calling my credit card company and disputing the charges, after I add my review to some of the sites, that I read glowing reviews from.
