In the end the car was delivered. After a lengthy look into the industry I most commonly noticed that the industry is unregulated and they can pretty much say and operate as they want. That being said I wanted to find the company with the most positive feedback with as many positive reviews. I received a few low ball quotes that blogs advised against as it could be up to a month for someone to actually pick up the bid at all (I had approx a 2 week window). If you decided to pay a little more you could get a shorter window. I had quotes from $550-1300.. I had a straight shooter from a company based out of Cali who was very straight forward and concerned more with honesty than to just get my business as his quote was around $1100. B/c of the snowbird season which I was transporting in the rates were generally high. He advised that anything under $900 would most likely not be picked by any transporter. I went with Amerifreight- my quote was $950 and they had a lot of positive feedback. I had a 7-10 day window with that price plan (more money for shorter window and vice versa). I kept in contact every few days to see how things were going... Of course what I was warned about happened. On the 12th day (which the vehicle was already guaranteed to be at my door. They said they would take $50 off my original deposit and put that towards what the transporter gets paid. Not decreasing my out of pocket just less of what they get paid. A few more days went by and still no contracted transporter picked up the route. They called to tell me for an extra $100 I could get my car picked up tomorrow - approx 5 days I was told the vehicle would be at my door. I was furious because I was now looking at having my rental car for another week. After ending the call as an irate customer they called me a few hours later and told me that they were able to talk to the transporter and get it for agreed upon rate. They acted like they were doing me a favor for actually getting the transport contracted. Overall... the money they take up front is what they make... they then put the bid out and any driver willing to pick up the route agrees upon. BEST ADVICE- find the company with the lowest retainer as the rest will goto the transporter meaning more in the pocket of the driver and the more likely your route will be picked in the arranged time frame.
