Well where does it start... I had a shipment on Uship advertising my 53" semi trailer to be moved from Virginia to Florida. It contained about 200k in shop tools and some CNC equipment along with household goods. After being contacted by Matt about it we agreed to ship the vehicle for 1800 dollars.
That's what I thought, and that's what the paperwork says. After a first day no-show, I called and asked where the driver was. Through some issue he was not coming that day. OK, fine, I've put some extra days in the scheduale for something like this to happen.
The driver shows up the next day, hooks up to the trailer and leaves. 2 hours later I receive a call from the driver saying he needs 800 more dollars to deliver the load or my trailer and it's contents will stay with him. <- - Yes you read that correctly, the driver held the whole load hostage after leaving the area with it. 800 more in cash or you loose your trailer and it's contents, that was the new deal.
So I call Matt who says he's going to help out and cover half since he's a nice guy. Realizing I've been scammed, but not wanting to loose everything I've worked for in the last 10 years I agree, 400 more on my end.
Now what you may or may not realize, Allegiant is not a transport company. They intercept people looking to ship things, make it sound as though they do the work and insure the shipment, then pass them off to the lowest bidder they can find. In my case that was Juan, a Spanish guy who spoke very little English. He was employed by some company in Miami. His DOT record had 17 violations in the last 12 months, and his lisence under suspention.
Think it's done yet? No just wait it gets better.
So "Juan" shows up at my place in Florida. He's frantic to get back to Miami before sundown. Why you say? it's because the truck was purchased at auction the day before he was sent to pick up the trailer. On the way down It has brake "issues" and he rear-ended someone with my loaded trailer on the back. That is why he has to go, the headlights are smashed out of the truck.
Relieved to even see my stuff, I pay the agreed amount, and the 400 extortion as well.
Upon inspection, the whole load is shifted forward and there is damage. The base to a 52 thousand dollar machine is cracked, a table is in pieces, and a very large Matco toolbox (purchased 6 mos prior) has dents down both sides from the skids all sliding forward during the accident.
So after the past 6 moths of dealing with this, I've come here to tell my Allegiant story. As it sits now, Matt At Allegiant passed it off onto Juan who can't be found and has no license or insurance. Allegiant Advertises that they insure every shipment, and while that is true, it insures THEM as a broker, not you or your property as a customer. So be forewarned that even though it looks like you are "insured" you are most definatly not.
I live with the cracked machine that I had imported from Germany, had the toolbox repaired at an auto body place for 700 dollars, paid 1800 for the move, got extorted 400 more, but did get my items to Florida.
Thanks Allegiant, you've opened my eyes on the online shipping industry. You should be ashamed as a person to be willing to do this to others.
