1flat rate did a good job with communications and honesty in a business full of misinformation and price fixing. Like most of these companies 1flat does not ship anything, they are middlemen who must find a company who will ship the vehicle for their quoted price. They do this by posting the load on a national board that other contractors and shippers can see.

That is the problem. I am broke down 850 miles from home on vacation and looking to get my truck back home. During my calls to find the best price, several other contractors went ahead, without an agreement, and posted our load at $850. Now, because every shipper in the country knows they can have my load at that price, 1Flat could not ship my car for the $675 he offered so we had no choice but to post the load (after getting the other two contractors to remove theirs from the board) at $1000 ($800 for the shipper, $200 for 1Flat) in order to get some one to pick it up in less than a week. At $675, I was told it would take two months to secure a shipper!!

So, with $1000 waiting at the end of the line, a shipper came forth within one day.
From that point things went okay and the truck arrived safe and on time once they picked it up.
Interestingly, the driver told me that my car could have been shipped for about $600 without the middlemen, which is about how the car dealers do it.

The system takes advantage of the inexperience of customers who rarely deal with this.
In this age there should be an E bay style of bidding for private auto shipping to eliminate the extra cost of contractors.

I did not give 1Flat and excellent rating due to the fact that they could not save me any money. Because of the system, I would not be able to give any contractor an excellent rating. It is what it is!
